Band
The first demo’s artwork Six Songs With The Devil (1994) contained swastika images.
On the 1997 album Unchain the wolves (1997) the band greets RAC / NSBM bands such as Fortress, Squadron, Brutal Attack, Abyssic Hate and Spear of Longinus, the song „Australian and Anti-Christ“ contains the line „I’m not ashamed to be white„. Asked about the lyrics in the Fanzine Hellpike in 1999, Bemrose is quoted like this:
„The lyrix only say that I’m not ashamed of my skin colour. Can you see how far society has come, if to even not to be ashamed of yourself is a crime. […] Then I found out the political climate in Germany is alot different than here in Australia. If I had of known I think I would’ve been a lot more silent about these issues. […] The bottom line is, D’666 are a metal band, not a political band. I might sing about the spirit of things as I see them, but not political strategy or ideal. And we have never been racist.„
More current articles and interviews mention racist, homophobe, misogyne and Anti-Antifa talk of Bemrose on stage, like asking the crowd whether there are „faggots“ present, commenting on the looks of female audience members, mocking northern European audiences because they according to him live in a matriarch society although descending from vikings, telling stories about Europe or Australia being invaded by Muslims (e.g. Deathcult Open Air 2012) or getting mad at an audience member wearing an Antifa sigil (Metal Magic Festival 2016).
In July 2016, a music journalist from the „metalsucks“ website wrote an article, calling Deströyer 666 „officially racist d-bags“. The band postet his private address on social media, which made the author taking down the article and posting an apology due to the threat level. Bemrose contacted him afterwards to change the apology in his favor and mocked him via the band’s social media.
Members
In 1997, Keith Bemrose released an album with the band Raven’s Wing which consisted of him and Nigel Brown and Scott McGuiness from the RAC band Fortress via the German NS labels Rock Nord / Rock-O-Rama.
In 2000, Shane Rout was member of the band, whose main project is the NSBM band Abyssic Hate.
In the early 2000ers, Bemrose took a beating by the band Blasphemy because he commented their guitarist’s skin color, asking the rest of the band members why they allow „such a person“ in the band.
In interviews, Bemrose seem to follow conspiracy narratives like the Kalergi Plan e.g. here.
Keith Bemrose has two Wolfsangel tattoos on his chest.
Appearances
The band played the Under the Black Sun festival in Germany in 2001 and 2003.
The band played the NSBM-friendly Deathkult Open Air in Germany in 2012.
The band played the NSBM-friendly Hammer Open Air festival in Finland in 2012.
The band played the Finnish Steelfest in 2014 and 2018, a festival where established bands are deliberately booked along with NSBM / far right extremist bands. In 2022, after a lot of criticism and public debate about the Steelfest lineup, many bands refrained from playing. Deströyer 666 played nonetheless and also returned in 2023.
The band played the Metal Threat Festival in the US in 2016.
The band played the NSBM-friendly Steelchaos festival in Finland in 2017.
The band was announced to play the NSBM festival Metal Threat in the US in 2025 but did not due to visa issues.
